The Advanced Course

The syllabus for the Advanced Broadcasting course has been developed and designed to give participants a full and in-depth understanding of the critical areas of Radio Broadcasting. It is a fully intensive practical course designed to immerse students in programme preparation and broadcast simulations.

The Advanced course is intended not only for those who wish to pursue a career in the Media but also for those who wish to merely learn more about broadcasting. The course syllabus is made up of two distinct sections covering the main areas in broadcasting.

Part 1

:: Digital Editing Techniques

:: The art of editing, Wave forms, Cut & Paste, Drag & Dump, Analogue & Digital techniques.

:: Broadcast Journalism: Reporting and News reading skills; Feature Programmes, Producing & Recording. Detailed analysis of the skills of radio presenters/producers. Microphone Principles & Technique.

:: Broadcast Equipment: Radio Desks, Studio and Recording, using jock-assist software.

:: Engineering: (a) a talk show, (b) a phone show, (c) a music show

:: Location Recording: Interview Technique. Microphone Technique, How to get the best response!

Part 2

:: Radio Commercial Production.

:: Commercials, jingles promo spots; Creating an ad/promo for broadcast.

:: Concept Development

:: From scripting to recording/mixing/mastering.

:: Voice-training: Breathing Techniques, Developing a clear, resonant broadcasting voice. Voicing commercials and promo spots.

:: Media Analysis: The workings of the Industry in Ireland. How to compile and record impressive audio show-tapes.

:: Career opportunities: How to pursue the right avenues.
