Group 1 Broadcasting Course

The Group 1 Foundation Broadcasting course is delivered by a team of experienced professionals, all of whom are acknowledged experts in the radio business. Additional specialised areas of the course are taught by a panel of guest lecturers with extensive teaching and professional studio experience.

The Group 1 Module is an intensive 5-week night-time course which takes place one night per week between 7.00 and 9.00pm. We also conduct one Saturday afternoon workshop during the course (2pm - 5pm). Our practical sessions involve “field-trips” to professional broadcast/recording set-ups, where state-of-the-art broadcasting equipment can be used.

The Group 1 course syllabus comprises two distinct sections covering the main areas in broadcasting. The five nights of the course comprise modules in the following subjects:

:: Understanding and using the equipment.
:: Editing - 1/4"/mini-disc editing.
:: The Broadcaster/Presenter - know what to say on air and when to say it; how to present your own show; what makes a good presenter?; relating to the audience; microphone techniques.

Part 2

:: Voice training - developing a distinctive broadcasting voice and adapting this for on-air use.
:: The "vox-pop". Using portable equipment to interview the public; what way to approach the public; preparing the vox-pop for broadcast in the studio.
:: The panel discussion - How to go about setting this up; approaching the relevant people; engineering the show.
:: News reading - preparing scripts for news reading; learning to read in a concise manner.
